In ancient times Aeschylus, was the most famous of Athenian playwrights. The citizens of Athens felt it was a part of their civic duty to attend as many dramas as possible. Greek writers usually specialized in tragedies. Tragedies are the most commonly attended shows in Greece. Tragedy is a form of drama in which a strong central character or hero ultimately fails and is punished by the gods. Usually, the hero has a fatal flaw that causes his undoing.
Popular Art:
Greek art is mainly five forms: architecture, sculpture, painting, pottery and jewelry making. Artistic production in Greece began in the prehistoric pre-Greek Cycladic and the Minoan civilizations, both of which were influenced by local traditions and the art of ancient Egypt.
Popular Architecture:
Greeks find detail in architecture very important and take pride in the styles of architecture you can find in Greece. Columns are often found very detailed and a big part of modern and ancient Greek architecture.
Popular Movie Style:
Theodoros (Theo) Angelopoulos was one of the most adored film directors in Greece. Angelopoulos was an acclaimed multi-awarded film director who dominated the Greek art film industry from 1975 on. With very popular greek films such as, Eternity and a Day, Landscape in the Mist, and The Dust of Time. Angelopoulos died in 2012.
